SUMMARY:NCOSS Pink Hi-Vis for Women in Poverty

You can also download the backgrounds to use for Microsoft Teams and Zoom. We have also included social media tiles with all the key facts and messaging from the campaign to post through your social media accounts. \nShow your support for the campaign by donning a neon pink vest in real life or by using our social media filters\, posting it on social media and publicly expressing your support. We also encourage you to promote the campaign in local media. \nThe report that sets out the evidence supporting our campaign\, Rebuilding for Women’s Economic Security – Investing in Social Housing in NSW – will be launched tomorrow\, and available here. \nActivate your networks. \nCall on your staff\, volunteers\, board members\, supporters and broader networks to do the same. Show our politicians that this is an issue that we all care about. \nAdditionally\, if you are planning some activities during the week please send an email through to advocacy@ncoss.org.au and we’ll share it on our website and through social media.

SUMMARY:Re-engage and Renew Forum - Orange
DESCRIPTION:Online forum for community workers \nHosted by the Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW (EWON) as part of Anti-Poverty Week \nAs NSW deals with ongoing COVID-19 related challenges\, and energy affordability becomes a pressing issue for vulnerable consumers\, we warmly invite community workers and advocates in Orange to attend our annual forum. \nWe aim to re-engage with community workers after a difficult year and renew how we reach vulnerable communities in a world that has been dramatically altered by the pandemic. \nWe’re pleased to announce the Commissioner of Resilience NSW\, Shane Fitzsimmons as our keynote speaker. \nIn his former role as NSW Fire Commissioner\, Shane guided a 74\,000-strong crew of mostly volunteers through one of Australia’s worst fire seasons. In 2020\, he was named Australian Father of the Year by The Shepherd Centre and then 2021 NSW Australian of the Year. The Commissioner will explain how Resilience NSW ensures communities devastated by drought\, bushfires\, floods and now COVID-19 are getting the help they need to rebuild and recover. \nJane Probert\, Director of Resolution and Customer Engagement at the Health Care Complaints Commission will speak about the work of the Commission and how they deal with complaints about health service providers in NSW. \nThe Forum will also include sessions on energy affordability and rebates\, with speakers from Financial Counselling Australia\, Australian Energy Regulator and energy providers. \nThe Ombudsman\, Janine Young will round off the Forum by hosting the ‘You Can’t Ask That! Yes\, You Can’ session. \nThe full agenda will be available in coming weeks\, but please RSVP below and feel free to share the event with your networks.

SUMMARY:Re-engage and Renew Forum Western Sydney
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW (EWON) as part of Anti-Poverty Week \nAs Greater Sydney deals with its second lockdown\, and energy affordability becomes a pressing issue for vulnerable consumers\, we warmly invite community workers and advocates in Western Sydney to attend our annual forum. \nThe Forum will also include sessions on energy programs and energy affordability issues\, with speakers from the Department of Planning\, Industry and Environment\, Australian Energy Regulator\, Red Energy\, EnergyAustralia and more. \nThe Ombudsman\, Janine Young will round off the Forum by hosting the ‘You Can’t Ask That! Yes\, You Can’ session. \nThe full agenda will be available in coming weeks\, but please RSVP below and feel free to share the event with your networks.

SUMMARY:St Vincent de Paul Society NSW's Rosalie Rendu Forum
DESCRIPTION:Re-imaginging the future: Can we create more equitable communities post pandemic? \nOver recent months\, the strength and resilience of our communities has been tested. First floods\, drought and fires\, and now a global pandemic have exposed the flaws in the social and economic systems that should be designed to protect even the most vulnerable among us. 0ut of crisis\, however\, comes opportunity. Together\, we can achieve an Australia that doesn’t merely return to normal\, but embodies the compassion and justice we strive to live out every day as Vincentians. \nThis year\, we are honoured to have Geraldine Doogue\, journalist\, radio and television presenter hosting our Rosalie Rendu Forum\, alongside Jody Broun\, Chief Executive and Executive Director of the Aboriginal Housing Office\, Kirsty Robinson\, CEO of Caritas Australia\, and Nicki Hutley\, Partner from Deloitte who will be panel speakers on the night. \nPlease join us at our 2020 Rosalie Rendu Forum to hear from Jody\, Kirsty and Nicki as they discuss the social\, economic and environmental consequences of COVID-19\, and consider how we can re-imagine a more equitable Australia. \nRosalie Rendu Forum 2020 will be held as a webinar on Thursday 15 October at 6pm. SUMMARY:Tackling child poverty in the wake of COVID-19: Priorities for Australia’s social security and family payments systems
DESCRIPTION:As the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to ramify across communities\, the number of children and families living in poverty is set to escalate. \nBefore the pandemic\, rates of child poverty in Australia were already stubbornly high\, with more than one in six children living below the poverty line. In the 1980s Australia led the world in implementing measures to guard against child poverty\, reducing it by over 30 per cent through reforms to the family payments system. These reforms\, however\, have been steadily unwound over the past two decades\, with a succession of cuts to family payments and decisions to slash social security payments to low-income families. \nThis webinar brings together a panel of speakers to examine child poverty in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic\, with a particular focus on the role of social security and family payments in alleviating child poverty. The webinar will consider some of the key factors contributing to high levels of child poverty in Australia\, the implications of the pandemic-induced recession\, and the political enablers and policy reforms needed to drive a new national effort to tackle child poverty in Australia. \nSpeakers:\n• The Reverend the Honourable Professor Brian Howe AO\n• Professor Miranda Stewart\, Melbourne University Law School\n• Terese Edwards\, National Council of Single Mothers and their Children\n• The Honourable Bronwyn Pike\, CEO of Uniting Vic. Tas\, VIC APW 2020 Co-Chair \nThis webinar will be recorded and uploaded to our website as a captioned video and transcript. \nPlease note\, times are in AEDT.
