SUMMARY:End Child Poverty in Australia - Hobart lunchtime action
DESCRIPTION:1 in 6 children live below the poverty line in Australia and in Tasmania.\nAs the costs of daily living continues to skyrocket\, many families can’t make their income stretch far enough to cover all their needs. Forced into making impossible choices about which essentials to prioritise\, sometimes there’s simply no money left to buy groceries – sending hungry children to school with an empty lunchbox. \nHelp us put an end to this injustice by visiting our activation in Elizabeth Street Mall\, featuring a display of lunchboxes representing Australia’s child poverty statistic. \nEnjoy a free cuppa from Loui’s Van\, biscuits\, slice and a chat with some of the state’s leading charities\, service providers and advocacy agencies to find out how we can all make a difference and support nourished futures for all Tasmanian children.

SUMMARY:Homelessness Australia webinar: systems change to end persistent homelessness
DESCRIPTION:A 60 min webinar hosted by Homelessness Australia being held on the joint World Homelessness Day and World Mental Health Day\, and in the leadup to Anti Poverty Week. \nSpeakers include Vivienne Brown from Orygen youth services\, Sue Pope from Common Ground Queensland\, David Threlfall from Mind Australia and Douschka Dobson from Melbourne City Mission. \nThese experts in homelessness and mental health will explore the challenges and opportunities for funding and delivery of safe supported housing options that sit at the intersection of housing\, homelessness\, disability\, and mental health systems. This work will feed into the Everybody’s Home campaign to fix the failing housing system and ensure that people experiencing recurring homelessness and psychosocial disability are receiving the tailored supports they need. \nAs the NDIS reform process is unfolding and Australian Governments are preparing to negotiate foundational supports for people with psychosocial disability\, the discussion will examine what reform would be needed to deliver the Housing First and Supportive Housing approaches needed to end persistent homelessness. \nWe know that this group are experiencing some of the greatest poverty\, along with social and economic exclusion from nearly all aspects of the community and government funded services. \nRegister through Eventbrite link:
